Teen Kouame stuns Cilic in French Open history

French wildcard Moise Kouame, aged 17, made a historic Grand Slam debut at Roland Garros by defeating 37-year-old former US Open champion Marin Cilic in straight sets (7-6, 6-1, 6-1). Kouame's victory marks him as the youngest man to win a match at Roland Garros since 1991, a significant milestone for the tournament.

Record-breaking performance

Kouame is also the youngest man to win a Grand Slam match since Bernard Tomic in 2009 and the youngest to win a Masters match since Rafael Nadal in 2003. The Paris-born teenager, currently ranked 313th in the world, is coached by France’s former world No. 7 Richard Gasquet. His win follows the exit of French favourite Gael Monfils.

Next round

Kouame will now progress to the second round, where he is set to play either Britain’s 20th seed Cameron Norrie or Paraguay’s Adolfo Daniel Vallejo. The tennis world is abuzz with excitement over this young talent's potential.
