Newcastle 2-2 Liverpool: Szoboszlai Penalty Denies Jaissle Debut Win
Szoboszlai Penalty Denies Jaissle Debut Win at Newcastle

Dominik Szoboszlai scored a last-gasp penalty to deny Matthias Jaissle a win in his first match in charge at St James' Park, as Liverpool salvaged a 2-2 draw against Newcastle United.

Early Newcastle Lead

Newcastle took the lead with the season just five minutes old. Debutant Amar Dedic swept the ball to William Osula, who threaded a pass to Anthony Elanga before he tucked it past Alisson.

Liverpool equalised in the 55th minute when Cody Gakpo latched on to Ryan Gravenberch's pass and cracked a low shot past Lukas Hornicek.

The lead lasted just two minutes as Yoane Wissa held off two Liverpool players before slipping in substitute Joe Willock, who picked his spot perfectly to make it 2-1.

Late Penalty Drama

It looked as though Newcastle had done enough to secure three points before Lewis Hall's foul on Victor Munoz allowed Szoboszlai to slam home the penalty.
