Gary Neville was quick to tell Newcastle United fans that VAR were right not to overturn Liverpool's late, late penalty to salvage a point at St James' Park on Sunday.
The Magpies held a 2-1 lead over the Reds as the game drew to a close, thanks to goals from Anthony Elanga and Joe Willock either side of Cody Gakpo's second-half strike. As the fifth and final minute of stoppage time drew to a close, however, Victor Munoz was brought down by Lewis Hall in Lukas Hornicek's area, granting the visitors a last-minute lifeline from 12 yards.
Szoboszlai converts from the spot
While all eyes were on Alexander Isak to take the spot kick upon his first trip back to Tyneside since his controversial transfer to Liverpool 12 months ago, it was Dominik Szoboszlai who coolly converted to secure a 2-2 draw and return to Merseyside with at least a point to show for his team's efforts.
Despite some United fans feeling hard-done-by through Stuart Attwell's decision to award the late and dramatic penalty, Sky Sports commentator Neville was quick to explain how he was well within his rights to do so.
Neville explains VAR call
As video replays showed no contact being made with the ball by Hall as Munoz was brought to ground, Neville explained: "Hall has been incredible but that is not going to be overturned.
"One thing I recognised straightaway was there was no touch on the ball. It looked like a penalty right away."
