Swansea City head coach Vitor Matos is reportedly being considered as a possible candidate to take over at Portuguese side Sporting, as pressure grows on current boss Rui Borges.
A 2-0 win over Casa Pia on Friday has given him some breathing space, but Borges' position in Lisbon is believed to be increasingly precarious. Sporting sit third in Liga Portugal, having won six and drawn three of their opening 10 games. They sit six points behind leaders Porto, who have a 100 per cent record at the top of the table.
Matos highly regarded
It remains to be seen whether Borges will survive, with the upcoming Champions League clash with Shakhtar also believed to be crucial in deciding his fate. Reports are already suggesting Sporting have started assessing possible replacements.
According to CNN Portugal, Matos is "very well regarded within Sporting's structure" having guided the Swans to second in the table following an impressive start to the season.
Other candidates linked
Several other names are tipped to be in the frame, including former Swans boss Paulo Sousa, who's been out of work since leaving UAE side Shabab Al Ahli earlier this year. Abel Ferreira, Leonardo Jardim and Vítor Pereira have also been mentioned.
It's the second time in recent weeks Matos has been linked with jobs elsewhere. The 38-year-old was recently tipped as a possible replacement for Crystal Palace boss Pierre Sage, who's similarly under pressure following a poor start to the season.
Matos on ambition
"As human beings we all have ambitions, players have ambitions," he said when quizzed on links with the Eagles. "But when you have ambition it doesn't mean that you are always looking somewhere else. You look first inside and what you can do better where you are. That's how I will always be."
