Sunderland have reportedly joined the race for £8.6m-rated Karlsruhe forward Louey Ben Farhat.
The Black Cats are said to be among four clubs interested, according to German publication Badische Neueste Nachrichten. Bournemouth, Lille and Eintracht Frankfurt have been tracking the 20-year-old, and now Sunderland are reported to have joined the race for a player valued at around £8m.
Career so far
Ben Farhat came through the youth systems at FSV Waiblingen and Stuttgarter Kickers before continuing his development with Karlsruhe. He made his senior debut in March 2024, coming off the bench during a 7-0 victory over Magdeburg in the 2. Bundesliga. The attacker signed his first professional contract four months later before agreeing an extension in May 2025.
International prospects
Born in Germany and of Tunisian descent, Ben Farhat is eligible to represent both countries and initially featured for Tunisia at U20 level. He was expected to receive a senior call-up for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations but was injured and still recovering from a metatarsal injury which sidelined him for four months.
Ben Farhat subsequently made his first senior appearances for Tunisia during friendly matches against Haiti and Canada in March 2026. The forward was then left out of Tunisia’s World Cup squad after deciding that the tournament had arrived too soon following his injury problems and the physical demands involved.
Transfer interest
Sunderland’s reported interest comes as Florent Ghisolfi continues assessing young players with significant development potential, although they face competition from three clubs capable of offering top-flight or European football.
