Sunderland have been told why Daniel Ballard's goal was disallowed during their 5-0 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest on Friday night. The Black Cats had conceded four first-half goals before Ballard thought he had pulled one back in the 61st minute.
However, following a VAR review, referee Darren England overturned the original decision. The Premier League Match Centre stated: 'After VAR review, the referee overturned the original decision of goal to Sunderland. Referee announcement: After review, Sunderland No.20 commits a tripping offence on the Nottingham Forest goalkeeper. Final decision is a disallowed goal and a free kick.'
The foul was committed by Nordi Mukiele on Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels. Sunderland went on to lose 5-0, with Elliot Anderson scoring in the closing minutes. The defeat leaves Sunderland in 11th place in the Premier League table.
Nottingham Forest's win moves them further clear of the relegation zone, remaining in 16th place, six points above 17th-placed West Ham and eight ahead of Tottenham Hotspur, who occupy the final relegation spot. Burnley and Wolves have already been relegated.
