Adam Idah came off the bench to score with his first touch, securing Swansea City a 2-1 comeback win at Stoke City in their Championship opener at the bet365 Stadium.
Comeback victory
Eric Bocat put the hosts ahead on 10 minutes, a goal that came against the run of play after a bright start from the Swans. Joseph Opoku levelled midway through the first half, before Idah scored just after the hour to seal the win.
Swansea had won only once in their previous 15 visits to the bet365 Stadium, but this performance contained plenty of positives for the travelling fans.
Key moments
Striker Zan Vipotnik started on the bench, as manager Vitor Matos made three changes from the side that lost to Birmingham City in the Carabao Cup. However, Vipotnik was upstaged by substitute Idah, whose match-winning cameo may ease concerns about life without the Slovenian should he depart this window.
Stoke took the lead when Tomas Rigo beat the offside trap and set up Bocat to score. Wales international Sorba Thomas also had a chance but lobbed over after being played in by former Swansea hero Ethan Galbraith, who received a frosty reception.
Swansea equalised through summer signing Opoku, who finished after Vipotnik flicked Moussa Yeo's ball across goal. Marko Stamenic headed straight at goalkeeper Viktor Johansson, while Bosun Lawal headed over for the hosts before half-time.
Winning goal
Lawrence Vigouroux made a fine save to tip over Thomas's drive just before the hour. That save proved crucial as Idah scored seconds after coming on, tucking home from Josh Tymon's low cross after a well-weighted pass from Jay Fulton.
Opoku fired high and wide from distance, and substitute Eom Jisung forced a save from Johansson with a volley. Vigouroux denied Bocat late on, but Swansea held on for a deserved three points.
