Storm Boleo Threatens SPFL Weekend Fixtures as Travel Chaos Looms
Storm Boleo Threatens SPFL Weekend Fixtures

The SPFL is bracing for Storm Boleo this weekend after already losing a game to Storm Austen. Saturday's weather front, with a different name to Friday's, has clubs and fans braced for more disruption as the Met Office has issued an amber weather alert for large parts of Scotland, with heavy rain and wind gusts of up to 80mph expected in some areas.

The Scottish Cup tie between Penicuik Athletic and Clyde, scheduled for Friday night, has already been scrapped. Fans could face travel chaos trying to get to other games, with a number of ScotRail services set to be cancelled and Network Rail altering its travel advice.

Rail and Ferry Disruption

Services both south and west of Kilwinning will be suspended from 9pm on Saturday (24th October), before the Oban and Mallaig lines follow from around 10pm. Both lines will remain closed on Sunday until a safety inspection can take place. Speed restrictions will be in place across large parts of the network from late on Saturday night and into Sunday. Network Rail says passengers should expect significant disruption and are being urged to plan ahead.

Meanwhile, Rangers fans planning to travel to Ibrox from Northern Ireland will have to find an alternative method after Stena Line cancelled sailings between Belfast and Cairnryan on Saturday. The 3.20am and 7.15am crossings are still scheduled as planned, but there will be no sailing from 11.15 onwards. The same goes for return crossings going from Cairnryan. That could prove to be a major headache for supporters making the journey to see Derek McInnes' men take on St Johnstone.

Sunday Fixtures Affected

Celtic travel to the capital to take on Hibs on Sunday, and fans are being urged to keep an eye on rail schedules for Sunday. Motherwell host Hearts a couple of hours later, with Lanarkshire also set to be hit with severe weather.
