Gareth Southgate has left Raheem Sterling out of the England squad for the upcoming matches against Ukraine and Scotland, instead handing a first call-up to Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah. Southgate acknowledged the difficulty of omitting Sterling but expressed confidence in the winger's form at Chelsea, saying the door remains open. Sterling accepted the decision and will focus on his club performances.
The squad will face Ukraine in a Euro 2024 qualifier in Poland on 9 September, followed by a friendly against Scotland at Hampden Park on 12 September.
