Former Premier League manager Tim Sherwood has apologised to Manchester United forward Benjamin Sesko after previously claiming the striker was 'not good enough' for the club. Sherwood's initial criticism came after a 2-2 draw with Burnley in January, where Sesko scored twice but was still deemed inadequate by the ex-Tottenham boss.
Sesko has since scored nine goals across all competitions this season, including four in his last five Premier League appearances. His form has been instrumental in United's six wins from seven matches under interim head coach Michael Carrick.
Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, Sherwood admitted he was wrong about Sesko. 'I based my assessment on the Benjamin Sesko I saw playing under Ruben Amorim – a striker who didn’t want to stand up and take a penalty at Grimsby,' he said. 'Michael Carrick has completely transformed Sesko and he’s now playing to his strengths.'
Sesko joined United from RB Leipzig last summer for £74 million (€85 million). He has recently scored the winning goal in a victory over Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.
