Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko will be out until at least January with a shin injury, worsening the club's striker availability crisis.
Sesko last played for United against Brighton in the Carabao Cup on September 16. He felt pain in his shin after that game, which led United to assess the best options for his recovery at Carrington.
Injury history and recovery
The striker missed the final three games of last season with a shin injury and missed the entirety of pre-season to recover. United are now facing the prospect of not having a recognised striker available for at least two months.
United have been investigating the best course of treatment for Sesko with specialists. Speaking before United's game against Como last week, Carrick said of his issue: "We're hoping soon that we have a clear picture.
"I'm not trying to delay it, hopefully by the end of the week we will have something clearer. There has been some work going on."
Treatment decisions and recent appearances
When Sesko picked up a shin injury last season, United decided that rest was the best course of action, rather than surgery. The same discussion was had when he felt pain in the same area a month ago.
Despite Sesko missing the entirety of pre-season, United were confident that he would be available for the opening game of the campaign against Hull, and the 23-year-old was indeed named on the bench.
Sesko came off the bench in that game before coming on as a substitute in three more league games. His two starts came against Sabah in the Champions League and Brighton in the Carabao Cup.
Impact on the squad
The striker scored from the bench against Everton in the league and against Sabah when they visited Old Trafford. United now face at least two months without a recognised striker available.
