Benjamin Sesko's shin injury will keep him sidelined until January, in a further blow to Manchester United's quickly unravelling season. The Slovenian striker is not expected to play again for club or country until the new year.
Injury Background and Reaggravation
The big Slovenian missed the latter stages of last season after a clash with Ibrahima Konate sent him clattering into the advertising hoardings at Old Trafford. He picked up a shin injury in doing so, which saw him miss the remainder of the 2025/26 campaign, the entirety of United's pre-season campaign and the early days of the new season. He did, however, train regularly at Carrington throughout the summer.
He returned in late August and started matches against Sabah and Brighton, before it was revealed he had reaggravated that shin problem. United released a statement at the time explaining the need for Sesko to undergo tests before a recovery timeline could be confirmed.
Test Results and Recovery Plan
Standard Sport understands those tests have not produced positive results for Sesko. The hope is an extended break will allow him to fully recover from the injury and move forward pain-free. Surgery is an option for this type of injury, but United do not want the striker to go under the knife.
Impact on United's Season
United will miss his goalscoring abilities as they struggle to turn around their dire form. He hit 12 goals across all competitions last season and has managed two in six appearances, only two of which were starts, this campaign. In his absence, Matheus Cunha has led the line most regularly. Bruno Fernandes was also trialled as a false nine.
United visit Chelsea this weekend as they look to snap an eight-match winless run, which has left Michael Carrick under intense pressure.
