Benjamin Sesko has heaped praise on Manchester United teammate Casemiro, calling the Brazilian midfielder a 'working machine' as he prepares to leave the club at the end of his contract. The 34-year-old, whose departure was confirmed in January, scored the opening goal in Monday's 2-1 win over Brentford, earning a man-of-the-match display that sparked chants from fans urging him to stay another season.
Sesko on Casemiro's Impact
Sesko, who also scored in the match, expressed admiration for the veteran midfielder. 'He's a working machine,' said the Slovenia striker. 'He's experienced, what he's putting on the pitch is unbelievable. You need someone like this. Unfortunately he's leaving, but we are pleased that we can manage him until the last minute in the game and we're going to use him.'
The 22-year-old added that Casemiro serves as a role model for work rate. 'The way you look at him, it's very important. I think you can be stupid if you don't look at him and try to be like him when it comes to the work-rate. Everyone is pleased that he is here. Unfortunately he leaves, but it's important to keep him up like this.'
Fernandes and Carrick Praised
Sesko also lauded captain Bruno Fernandes, who provided his 19th assist of the season for Sesko's goal, moving within one of the Premier League single-season record. 'You have to use him,' Sesko said. 'The way he's playing, the way he's understanding the game, it's just outstanding. I'm really pleased that I can be part of the team being with him.'
Head coach Michael Carrick, appointed in January, has transformed United's fortunes, lifting them to third place and within two points of securing Champions League qualification. Sesko hopes Carrick, whose contract expires at the end of the season, will stay. 'He's an amazing coach. He's brought different energy. The way we're doing in training is unbelievable. Of course, I would like to have him here.'
United face Liverpool on Sunday, with Sesko focused on securing Champions League football. 'We have to keep it up like this. We're looking forward to the next game to try and secure the Champions League.'
