The wife of former Premier League footballer Nelson Semedo has been taken to hospital following a car crash in Turkey. Marlene Alvarenga was reportedly on her way to collect her children from school when the accident occurred on the Northern Marmara Motorway, north of Istanbul.
According to Portuguese outlet O Jogo, Alvarenga was not driving at the time; the unnamed driver lost control of the vehicle, which flipped onto its side. Semedo, 32, rushed to his wife's side at the hospital, where she is understood to have sustained only minor injuries.
Semedo, who played for Barcelona and Wolves before joining Fenerbahce on a free transfer last summer, is currently sidelined with a medial ligament injury suffered in a match against Antalyaspor. His club released a statement expressing sadness over the incident and sending best wishes to Alvarenga and her family.
Fenerbahce remain undefeated in the league after 24 matches but sit second, four points behind Galatasaray. The club also confirmed that manager Domenico Tedesco will miss this week's cup fixture against Gaziantep due to a severe infection.
