Celtic legend Scott Brown has departed his position as manager of Scottish Championship side Ayr United by mutual consent. The decision follows a challenging period for the club, marked by a nine-game winless run in all competitions.
Brown's Managerial Tenure Ends Abruptly
Scott Brown, aged 40, was appointed as the manager of Ayr United in January 2024. During his illustrious playing career, Brown secured ten league titles with Celtic and earned 55 caps for the Scottish national team, establishing himself as a football icon. However, his transition into management has faced significant hurdles at Ayr United.
Recent Form Triggers Departure
The club's recent performance has been dismal, with Ayr United failing to secure a victory in their last nine matches across various competitions. This poor run culminated in a 3-0 defeat to Raith Rovers on Friday night, leaving the team languishing in eighth place in the Scottish Championship table. The consistent lack of positive results ultimately led to Brown's exit.
Interim Arrangements Announced
In response to Brown's departure, Ayr United has confirmed that Jamie Murphy, Tommy Tait, and Dave Timmins will oversee training sessions starting Monday. The club has also indicated that further communication regarding an interim managerial position will be provided in due course, as they seek to stabilise the team and address the ongoing challenges.
This development marks a significant shift for Ayr United, as they navigate the aftermath of Brown's tenure and aim to reverse their fortunes in the competitive Scottish Championship.
