Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has launched a blistering attack on former teammate Marcus Rashford, accusing him of 'quitting' on the club during his final months at Old Trafford. The 27-year-old forward, who recently joined Barcelona on loan after a stint at Aston Villa, scored twice in the Champions League against Newcastle and provided an assist in a La Liga victory over Getafe.
Despite acknowledging Rashford's undeniable talent, Scholes expressed frustration with the player's attitude amid his departure. 'There's no doubt the talent that kid has got, it's ridiculous,' Scholes said. 'I really struggled to feel happy for him. Mainly because his attitude at United was a disgrace. The time he was leaving, I thought it was just disgrace at United, not trying.'
The former England midfielder was particularly critical of Rashford's demeanour on the pitch, suggesting the forward had given up before his exit. 'The amount of times I saw him at United walking because he wants to leave, I thought his whole demeanour was a disgrace. I think he actually quit on Manchester United. And once you quit once, you'll quit again,' Scholes added.
Rashford fell out of favour under manager Ruben Amorim and subsequently expressed a desire to explore his options. A loan to Aston Villa in the second half of last season preceded his move to Barcelona, where he has rediscovered form, earning an England recall. However, Scholes' comments highlight lingering discontent over how the player handled his departure from his boyhood club.
