Sarina Wiegman signs England deal until Euro 2029

Sarina Wiegman has signed a contract extension to remain England manager until the end of Euro 2029. The Dutch head coach had already extended her deal to cover next summer's World Cup in Brazil, but has now agreed to stay on for one further tournament cycle.

Tournament Record

Wiegman took charge of England in September 2021 and has led the Lionesses to their first major title at Euro 2022, beating Germany in the final at Wembley. England then reached the 2023 World Cup final in Australia and New Zealand, where they were beaten by Spain, before successfully defending their European crown at Euro 2025 in Switzerland.

Wiegman's Reaction

"I am so happy to be able to carry on with this squad and cannot think of a better job in football," said Wiegman. "Working for a world-class organisation like the FA, and alongside so many people dedicated to winning England teams and the growth of our game, excites me every day. Of course, anyone who knows me will understand that my main concern right now is absolutely the World Cup, and helping this squad realise their potential in the years to come. We have an important job to do to confirm our place in Brazil, and hopefully we can do that and give the country another special summer to remember next year."

FA Praise

The FA's chief football officer Dan Ashworth said: "We have been aware for a long time now that this is a golden age for women's football in this country, and Sarina has played a significant part. In Sarina, we have an elite coach who has won consistently while operating at the highest tactical level, embracing innovation and never standing still. Her record is remarkable. While Sarina is fuelled by a determination to keep on winning and to support the growth of the game, her humility also shines through. It is never about her but always about a desire to maximise the potential within players to be the best they can be."
