Erik ten Hag has revealed that Manchester United officials met with Jadon Sancho during his loan spell at Borussia Dortmund, stating that the dispute between the forward and the manager will be resolved after the season. John Murtough, the former football director, and Matt Hargreaves, director of player negotiations, travelled to Germany for the discussions.
The 24-year-old has not played for United since August after a public fallout with Ten Hag. The manager left Sancho out of the squad for a 3-1 defeat at Arsenal, citing poor training performance, which the player disputed in a social media post. Sancho refused to apologise and was subsequently excluded from the first team.
Sancho impressed in Dortmund's 1-0 Champions League semi-final first-leg win over Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday. Ten Hag confirmed the club are monitoring his progress. 'We are close in that process,' he said. 'We had a visit with him, we talked with him, and we will keep going with this process.'
Regarding Bruno Fernandes, Ten Hag expressed confidence the captain will remain at United for the remainder of his contract, despite the midfielder recently stating his future depends on both parties. Fernandes is a doubt for Monday's trip to Crystal Palace but is expected to 'fight' to be fit. Ten Hag praised his commitment, calling him 'a very good example for other players.'
Harry Maguire has been ruled out for three weeks with a muscle injury, adding to United's defensive crisis. The centre-back is unlikely to return for the league season but hopes to be fit for the FA Cup final against Manchester City on 25 May and this summer's European Championship.
