Sam Allardyce has made an immediate impact at Leeds United, bringing a renewed sense of motivation and defending focus to the club. The 68-year-old manager reported for his first day at 7am and left at around 7:30pm, demonstrating his commitment to the relegation battle.
Allardyce's appointment as Javi Gracia's successor was confirmed on Wednesday, with assistant coach Karl Robinson by his side. The veteran manager's positive body language and confidence have been noted as a stark contrast to the recent mood at the club. 'There was a spring in Sam's step, a presence about him. It's something we've been missing for a while,' said a source.
Allardyce has focused on motivation and defending in his early days, holding meetings with the analysis department and existing coaching staff. He also gave an inspiring speech to all departments, emphasising an open-door policy and valuing everyone's input.
Former Tottenham and Republic of Ireland striker Robbie Keane has joined the coaching staff, having flown from Dublin to sign a contract on Wednesday. Keane, who played for Leeds for 18 months, was brought in after Allardyce's long-term aide Sammy Lee was unable to join due to jury service.
Allardyce had to pull out of a charity match at Oldham, where he was due to manage a legends team, to focus on his new role. His place will be taken by Joe Royle.
