Mohamed Salah scored a first-half penalty as 10-man Egypt defeated South Africa 1-0 in their Africa Cup of Nations Group B clash in Agadir, becoming the first team to reach the knockout stages. Egypt now have six points from two games, while South Africa remain on three.
Salah won the penalty after being clipped in the face by South Africa defender Khuliso Mudau, and he calmly converted for his second goal of the tournament. Egypt lost right-back Mohamed Hany to a red card for a stamp at the end of the first half, and faced sustained pressure from South Africa in the second period, including a denied penalty appeal for handball after a VAR check.
In other Group B action, Angola and Zimbabwe drew 1-1, leaving both with one point and facing difficult final group matches. Angola took the lead through Gelson Dala, but Zimbabwe equalised via Knowledge Musona in first-half stoppage time. Angola will face Egypt next, while Zimbabwe take on South Africa.
In Group A, Mali rescued a 1-1 draw against Morocco thanks to Lassine Sinayoko's second-half penalty. Morocco had taken the lead through Brahim Díaz's spot-kick. Morocco top the group on four points, with Mali and Zambia both on two. Zambia were held to a goalless draw by Comoros, who had a goal disallowed by VAR.
