Bukayo Saka's Defiant Message to Critics as Arsenal Extend Premier League Lead

Bukayo Saka delivered a defiant message to Arsenal's critics after marking his 300th appearance for the club with a vital winner against Brighton on Wednesday night. The victory propelled the Gunners to a seven-point lead at the summit of the Premier League, following an unexpected slip-up by Manchester City.

Saka Dismisses Outside Scrutiny

The England international, who struck the decisive first-half goal at the Amex Stadium, emphasised that Mikel Arteta's dressing room pays no attention to external criticism. Saka stated: "We don’t listen to that stuff. I don’t see it, I don’t read it. It is not beneficial in any way. We just want to continue going our way, winning."

He added that regardless of how Arsenal perform, critics will always have something to say. "People will say whatever they want to see, whether we play the most beautiful football or if we score from a set-piece, they will still talk. For us, we just want to win games and we are now getting closer to the end of the season," Saka explained.

Momentum Building for the Gunners

Arsenal now have the opportunity to extend their advantage over City to ten points if they secure a victory against Everton at the Emirates Stadium next Saturday. Although this is their only Premier League fixture for over five weeks, the league leaders are confident they can maintain their momentum.

Saka highlighted the team's recent form, saying: "We are definitely building momentum. We have won three massive games now [since dropping points at Brentford and Wolves]. We have some massive games coming up before the next international break and we are excited and feeling confident."

City's Slip-Up Provides Extra Boost

The 24-year-old forward cracked a smile as he recalled the moment news filtered through of City's shock 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest at the Etihad. Saka admitted this surprise result felt like an extra step closer to glory.

"As we went to clap the fans they burst out into another roar and I could tell something had gone on in the other games and then Mikel came and told me that City had drawn 2-2," Saka recounted. "It gives us a great feeling. We fought hard as we knew it was a massive game for Arsenal regardless of the other results as we cannot control what they did. We won against Brighton and then we found out we were a step ahead in the race. It is just amazing for us."

Personal Milestones and Team Success

Saka has now equalled his Premier League goal tally from last season with six strikes, but he remains focused on collective success over personal statistics. "Yeah [I want to score more]. But at the same time, it is about winning. As an attacker, you want to contribute more sometimes on the stats sheet but at the same time, you want to win, too. It is a balance. Let’s keep going like this and if we finish in this position, I will be happy," he concluded.

With the finish line now firmly in their crosshairs, Arsenal and Saka are determined to ignore the noise and continue their pursuit of Premier League glory.
