Thierry Henry has revealed he delivered 'brutal' truths to Bukayo Saka during a phone call that helped transform the winger's Arsenal career. Speaking to Betway, the Arsenal legend described the conversation as 'honesty is key' and that he was 'brutally honest' with the 24-year-old.
Saka, who has made nearly 300 appearances for the Gunners since his breakthrough in 2018, has scored 78 goals and earned 48 England caps. Henry praised the winger's consistency and argued that stats do not tell the full story of his contributions on the pitch.
'Sometimes, stats don't tell you how a player plays,' Henry said. 'If you take Andres Iniesta and only look at his stats, you'll think he was an OK player. Now if you watch the game, it's a different ball game.' Henry highlighted Saka's defensive work, willingness to track back, and ability to play as a wing-back as examples of his value beyond goals and assists.
The former Arsenal striker also noted a shift in Saka's mentality: 'His eyes have changed. You know when someone has that look, it's over. I think that changed a bit for Bukayo. On the field, you don't have to be nice. Winners are not nice. They want to win.'
