Bukayo Saka was forced off after just nine minutes of Arsenal's Champions League draw with Bayern Munich, and Mikel Arteta has admitted the medical staff are concerned about the winger's latest injury.
The 25-year-old pulled up clutching his leg after making a pass and was replaced by Eberechi Eze, who scored 15 minutes later. Arteta confirmed the issue is with Saka's quad.
Arteta's Worrying Update on Saka
Speaking to TNT Sports after the 2-2 draw in Munich, Arteta said: "[The medical staff] are a bit concerned. A player that has to come off with a really sharp pain is never good news. But we have to wait and see. It does not look good at all. It's his quad."
Saka has played in all seven of Arsenal's Premier League matches this season but has suffered multiple injury layoffs over the past two years. He missed 15 fixtures for club and country last term with various problems, and in 2024/25 he was unavailable for 25 games spanning more than three months due to a hamstring injury.
Gyokeres Urged to Play in Two-Striker System
Meanwhile, former Arsenal midfielder Anders Limpar has urged Arteta to switch to a two-striker system to get the best out of Viktor Gyokeres. The Swedish striker, who joined in summer 2025 for £64m, scored 21 goals last season but has struggled as a lone frontman and has slipped behind Kai Havertz in the pecking order this term. He is yet to score this season.
Limpar, who coached Gyokeres at Brommapojkarna, told Betarades: "When I see Viktor playing for Sweden, he is much better because he's playing with two up front, and he was brought up in the Swedish system, playing with two forwards. Playing up front on his own is hard for him because it's not his game to be a target player."
He added: "He is good going forward, chasing the ball, and he's a threat on counterattacks, so he needs a player who is a really good target so he can play off them. At the moment, you can see that he's struggling a little bit when it comes to receiving the ball, to pass the ball around."
Limpar's Warning to Gyokeres
Limpar also cautioned the striker about his public comments, saying: "It might be nerves, or that he's not comfortable coming off the bench. But you should never ever go out in the press saying that you want to leave or that you want to play every game. That's not good for Arteta, that's not good for him, and that's not good for the club. I'm pretty sure that all the Arsenal players are squad players."
Gyokeres has scored 10 goals in 11 international appearances this year, typically partnering Liverpool's Alexander Isak for Sweden. Arsenal host Everton in the Premier League this weekend, with Arteta facing fresh selection headaches.
