Marie Keane, the mother of Manchester United and Republic of Ireland legend Roy Keane, has died peacefully at Marymount University Hospital and Hospice in Cork, surrounded by her family. She was 84.
A death notice on RIP.ie confirmed that Marie passed away on March 27, 2026, in the tender loving care of the doctors, nurses and staff of St. Anne’s Ward. She was the dearly loved wife of the late Maurice (Mossie) and beloved mother of Denis, Johnson, Hilary, Roy and Pat.
Roy’s father, Maurice ‘Mossie’ Keane, died in 2019 at the age of 79 after suffering a stroke. In 2022, Roy shared a photograph of himself with his mother on social media, captioning it: ‘The only boss I listen to’.
During an appearance on The Overlap last year, the former midfielder became visibly emotional after showing co-stars an old photo of his parents attending one of his early football matches. He was comforted by fellow panellist Ian Wright.
