Roy Keane rejects Bruno Fernandes apology to Man Utd boss

Roy Keane has dismissed Bruno Fernandes' apology to former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag as "too little, too late", while also questioning the captain's leadership during the club's current struggles.

Fernandes, 32, had apologised to Ten Hag after the Dutchman was sacked two years ago, following a poor run of results at Old Trafford. The Portuguese midfielder told Sky Sports at the time that he had spoken with the manager and expressed regret over his departure.

Keane's response to Fernandes' apology

Speaking on Sky Sports, Keane was unimpressed with Fernandes' comments. "Too little, too late," he said. "Listen, these are always awkward interviews but I wouldn't have much time and patience for a player to say, 'Listen, sorry we've let you down'. Too little, too late."

Keane added: "You're judged by what you do on the football pitch and I don't think Bruno (has) done enough in a lot of the games where he didn't show that leadership. So, it'll be interesting to obviously hear what Ten Hag has to say about it but you also have to move on."

Criticism of Fernandes' captaincy

The former United captain also suggested Fernandes had not done enough in his role as skipper. "I don't think Bruno [has] done enough as a captain of Man United over last year to help the manager out. Far from it. The proof's there with all the results," he said.

Keane continued: "Not just on to Bruno, of course, but I don't think he showed enough leadership skills when the going got tough with some of the performances. I don't think Bruno should be too proud of himself of what's happened to the Man United manager over the last week or two with Ten Hag. I think the players let the manager down ultimately."

Current pressure on Michael Carrick

Fernandes is now facing scrutiny for questioning current manager Michael Carrick's tactics after Wednesday's 4-1 defeat at Como in the Champions League. The loss leaves United without a win in seven games, increasing pressure on Carrick's position.

Keane's Sky Sports colleague Jamie Carragher has also criticised Fernandes, calling him a "disgrace" for blaming Carrick after the heavy defeat. Carrick has apologised to United's supporters following the trip to Italy as the team endures another difficult start to the campaign.
