Rooney's Pyjama Gaffe at Son's Man Utd Debut

Former Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has shared an amusing and slightly embarrassing story about his son Kai's landmark moment at Old Trafford. The football icon attended his teenage son's debut for the Manchester United Under-18s in the FA Youth Cup, but later discovered he had made a significant wardrobe error.

A Proud Family Moment with an Unexpected Twist

Kai Rooney, the eldest of Wayne and Coleen Rooney's children, came off the bench during Manchester United Under-18s' victory over Derby County. The match represented a special occasion for the family, with both parents present in the stands alongside first-team interim manager Michael Carrick and assistant Steve Holland.

The teenager has progressed through United's youth academy since joining the club back in 2009, making this appearance particularly meaningful for the Rooney family. United secured their win with an own goal putting them ahead before Chido Obi extended their lead in the 103rd minute.

The Pyjama Revelation

Despite the proud parental moment, Wayne Rooney has now revealed he attended the match wearing what he believed was fashionable oversized loungewear, but which turned out to be his son's pyjamas. "I went into my wardrobe and picked a tracksuit out," Rooney explained. "I thought it was one of them oversized tracksuits what the younger lads are wearing nowadays."

The former England captain found the garment comfortable and decided to wear it to the match, covering it with a large coat. He admitted he would have dressed more formally for a first-team game, but felt the youth match justified more casual attire.

"It was only when I got home, Coleen asked to look at the label on it, and it was actually a pair of pyjamas," Rooney confessed. "So I went to watch my son's first game at Old Trafford in a pair of pyjamas, mistakenly."

Unaware Conversations in Sleepwear

Remarkably, Rooney remained unaware of his fashion faux pas throughout the entire event, even engaging in significant football conversations while wearing the sleepwear. "I had it off for like an hour inside!" he revealed. "I had a full-on 10-minute conversation with Jason Wilcox [United director of football] in my pyjamas."

One friend did raise suspicions, with former United teammate Darron Gibson commenting that the outfit "looked like pyjamas." However, Rooney insisted the garments weren't obviously sleepwear, stating: "They weren't that obvious to be honest. It shows my style, I actually thought that it was an oversized tracksuit."

The incident adds a humorous footnote to what was otherwise a significant family milestone, demonstrating that even football legends can experience everyday parenting mishaps. Rooney has promised to share photographic evidence of the pyjamas in question during his next public appearance.
