Cristiano Ronaldo returns to Manchester United training

Cristiano Ronaldo has returned to Manchester United training after being granted compassionate leave following the death of his baby son.

The 37-year-old was driven into United's Carrington training complex on Thursday morning and it is understood he took part in the full session.

Ronaldo missed Tuesday's 4-0 defeat by Liverpool at Anfield after announcing in October that his partner, Georgina Rodriguez, was expecting twins. Their baby girl was born safely.

In a statement, Ronaldo wrote: “It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away. Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness.”

Liverpool and United fans joined forces at Anfield on Tuesday night to show support, with a minute's applause in the seventh minute of the game.
