The football legend, currently residing in the United Arab Emirates, spoke out about the unsettling situation as tensions between Iran, Israel, and the United States escalated.
'A Different Week' in the Emirates
"Been a different week for me, not going to lie," Ferdinand revealed on the latest episode of his football podcast, Rio Ferdinand Presents. He described how his family has adapted to the circumstances, noting that they are all in "great condition" after morning workouts together. The former defender drew parallels to the COVID-19 pandemic, explaining that the family is engaging in activities they wouldn't typically do as a unit, including home-schooling.
Navigating Fear and Uncertainty
Ferdinand expressed the frightening nature of hearing missiles, planes, and fighter jets overhead, along with the sound of large explosions. "You're hearing big bombs, and what that is we don't know as we don't know the details of what they are," he admitted. The father of three emphasized the importance of helping his children navigate this challenging moment, particularly in his role as the dad of the house. "You want to try and remain calm and keep everybody as calm as possible," he stated.

Despite the "scary situation," Ferdinand noted that he has felt "very secure and looked after." He revealed that his studio has effectively become a bunker for the family. On the first night of the disturbances, they were advised to retreat to the basement, where they slept with duvets and other essentials. "We are utilising the space wisely," he added, highlighting their pragmatic approach to the lockdown.
