Rhodri Giggs has criticised the Premier League's decision to exclude his brother, Ryan Giggs, from the 2025 Hall of Fame shortlist. The 15-man list of nominees was announced on Sunday, with two players to be selected for induction. Despite winning a record 13 Premier League titles and holding the top-flight assist record, Giggs was omitted, a move Rhodri attributes to off-field controversies.
The former Manchester United winger's reputation has been marred by an eight-year affair with Rhodri's then-wife Natasha, which ended their marriage. Rhodri, however, has moved on, stating on social media: 'Mate, it was over 14 years ago and I've got two kids with someone else and made s*** load of money from it.' He claimed to have earned around £1 million from the affair.
Ryan Giggs also faced legal issues, stepping down as Wales manager in 2022 after being arrested on suspicion of assault. He denied the claims and was cleared in 2023 when his ex-girlfriend withdrew from the trial. Despite these controversies, Rhodri defended his brother's legacy, posting a compilation of Giggs' career highlights with the caption: '13 Premier League medals and countless goals and the record number of Premier League assists. #TheShamHallOfFame.'
The shortlist includes several of Giggs' former Manchester United teammates, such as Patrice Evra, Teddy Sheringham, Gary Neville, Michael Carrick, Nemanja Vidic, Edwin van der Sar, and Michael Owen. Other nominees include Sol Campbell, Jermain Defoe, Cesc Fabregas, Les Ferdinand, Robbie Fowler, Eden Hazard, David Silva, and Yaya Toure. Fans can vote on the Premier League website until September 15, with the final decision made by the 24 current Hall of Famers.
