Ryan Reynolds has expressed his pride in Wrexham's performance after their FA Cup fourth-round defeat to Chelsea, despite the League One side pushing the Premier League giants to extra time at the Racecourse Ground.
Wrexham took the lead through Sam Smith, but Chelsea equalised via a fortuitous own goal before half-time. Callum Doyle restored the hosts' lead with 12 minutes remaining, only for Josh Acheampong to level again. Extra time saw Alejandro Garnacho and Joao Pedro secure Chelsea's quarter-final spot, with Wrexham's George Dobson sent off.
Reynolds, co-owner alongside Rob McElhenney, wrote on X: 'Three years ago this week, we battled Maidenhead United to a draw. Today we pushed Chelsea to extra time. So incredibly proud of Wrexham’s performance today.'
Manager Phil Parkinson praised his side: 'The lads have been immense... when we wake up tomorrow the lads can be immensely proud – and the supporters will be – of the way we’ve played.' He added that 'some big calls went against us.'
Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior admitted: 'Wrexham were magnificent... We were pushed all the way by a very good team.'
