Rees-Zammit told to work harder to end Wales try drought

Wales wing Louis Rees-Zammit has been told he may need to work harder to end his longest try drought in Test rugby, as he prepares to face Argentina this weekend. The 25-year-old has gone six matches without a try for Wales, the longest dry spell of his 41-cap career. Five of those matches were at full-back, but he returned to his preferred wing position against Fiji last weekend, managing only a couple of carries in the 39-24 victory before being replaced by Ellis Mee before the hour mark.

Former Wales star offers advice

Former Wales wing Alex Cuthbert believes there could be more opportunities against Argentina, but stressed that Rees-Zammit needs to seek out more involvement. "I thought he did pretty well in the air," Cuthbert said on the Scrum V podcast. "Watching Scotland against Argentina, they got around them a lot. We're going to need to use him a lot. He's probably going to have to work a little harder to make that extra number." Cuthbert highlighted how Scotland's Darcy Graham found extra numbers against Argentina's defence, adding: "How do you get him and Eddie James in the game? We didn't see enough of him really."

Ospreys re-sign former Wales U20s scrum-half

The Ospreys have handed a new deal to former Wales Under-20s scrum-half Harri Williams. The 23-year-old joined the Ospreys last season after playing in Australia with Tuggeranong Vikings in the ACTRU Premier Division. He made just one appearance, coming off the bench for a couple of minutes against Connacht in March, after recovering from an early-season injury. "It was a season of mixed emotions for me," Williams said. "I picked up a tough injury early on which was difficult, but I managed to make my debut for the club, which was a real privilege." Ospreys head coach Mark Jones added: "Harri worked extremely hard in training last season, so it was a real shame that he picked up the injury. It says a lot about his character that he was able to get back to contribute towards the end of the season."

England call up duo for Fiji clash

Emmanuel Iyogun and Chandler Cunningham-South have been called up to England's squad for the Nations Championship match against Fiji on Saturday, following further injury withdrawals. Northampton prop Iyogun replaces Beno Obano, while Cunningham-South comes in for the injured Cadan Murley. Obano had come off the bench in England's 45-21 defeat to South Africa but will miss the Fiji match due to an unspecified issue. Murley was forced off during the second half against the Springboks with a shoulder problem. Tom Roebuck was called up on Monday to replace George Furbank, who had his appendix removed and is set to return to the UK. Full-back Freddie Steward is expected to be available after missing the South Africa match with a rolled ankle.

Rookie props in line for Ireland debuts

Rookie props Billy Bohan and Sam Illo could make their Ireland debuts in Saturday's Nations Championship clash with Japan in Newcastle, New South Wales. Munster loose-head Jeremy Loughman is unavailable after suffering a head injury in Ireland's 33-31 victory over Australia, and head coach Andy Farrell may rest Tadhg Furlong ahead of the New Zealand match. Scrum coach John Fogarty expressed confidence in the Connacht pair, saying: "There's a reason they're here. Both Billy and Sam have performed well throughout the season. They've put their hands up and we're seeing that form in training." Bohan, 20, made his Connacht debut in December and was called into Farrell's Six Nations squad in January after injuries to other props. Fogarty praised his mindset: "He's got a huge appetite to learn. Size-wise, he's just about perfect. It's really exciting, but he's got a lot to learn."
