Barcelona Yet to Agree Permanent Rashford Deal, Despite Spanish Reports

Barcelona and Marcus Rashford have not yet reached a final agreement over a permanent transfer from Manchester United, contrary to recent claims in Spanish media. The 28-year-old forward has impressed during his loan spell at the Catalan club, but BBC Sport reports that while negotiations have begun over activating the £26 million buy-option in his loan deal, no deal has been finalised.

Additional talks are necessary, with Rashford still having two years remaining on his £325,000-a-week contract at Old Trafford. Reports from Spanish publication Sport had suggested a transfer was agreed, claiming Rashford would take a wage cut and forfeit bonuses for a three-year deal, but those reports appear premature.

Barcelona continue to face significant financial difficulties, meaning Rashford would likely need to accept reduced wages for a permanent move. The club are also considering a striker signing as their headline transfer this summer, seeking a long-term successor to Robert Lewandowski.

Rashford has struggled for regular game time in recent weeks, with Raphinha and Lamine Yamal back fit. However, Barcelona boss Hansi Flick praised his attitude, recalling a conversation where Rashford said: 'Boss, you don't have to tell me about your decisions. The most important thing is the team.'

Meanwhile, former Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick, now manager of Middlesbrough, has been linked with a potential reunion, but he remained non-committal when asked about Rashford's return earlier this season.
