Manchester United's preparations for Wednesday's Champions League match against Como have been disrupted by injuries, with Marcus Rashford and Lisandro Martinez among eight players missing from Tuesday's training session.
Michael Carrick's side is looking to recover from a 2-0 defeat against Atletico Madrid last week, but several injury concerns, particularly in defence, have complicated their buildup.
Defensive Concerns Mount
Harry Maguire was the only senior centre-back present at the Carrington session, as Martinez was absent after suffering a thigh problem during United's recent clash with Leeds United. The Argentine defender was substituted at half-time and remains a doubt for the trip to Italy.
Leny Yoro was another notable absentee, though he is already ruled out of Wednesday's encounter following his red card against Atletico. The French defender is understood to be working on an individual training programme instead.
Rashford's Fitness in Question
Rashford's availability is in serious doubt as he continues to struggle with a hip injury that prevented him from taking part in Tuesday's session. Ayden Heaven, Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw were also missing as United stepped up their preparations.
Shaw has not featured since playing the entire 90 minutes of United's 1-1 draw with Tottenham a fortnight ago. He subsequently picked up an injury and has remained sidelined. Club sources have indicated that late decisions will be made on the aforementioned players before the squad travels to Italy.
Selection Dilemma Ahead
While there is still a possibility that some of the absentees could be included, Carrick faces the prospect of heading into the fixture with severely limited defensive options. Benjamin Sesko and Patrick Dorgu remain unavailable as they continue their recoveries from separate injuries.
Sesko is currently dealing with a shin problem and there is no clear timeframe for the striker's return. Dorgu, meanwhile, has been sidelined by a suspected hamstring injury sustained against Wales, which also forced him to withdraw from Denmark's international squad in September.
With several key players struggling for fitness, Carrick faces a difficult selection dilemma as United attempt to bounce back from their European setback.
