Raphael Lea'i: 120 goals in 115 games for Solomon star

Solomon Islands international Raphael Lea'i has amassed a remarkable 120 goals in just 115 career appearances, a record that has sparked a wave of social media calls from Premier League supporters urging their clubs to sign him.

The 23-year-old forward has been in prolific form in the South Pacific and on the international stage, most recently scoring six goals in a single match this week.

Five goals in Super League rout

Lea'i delivered another standout performance in the Solomon Islands SIFF Super League on Sunday, 1 November, scoring five goals as Central Coast FC beat local rivals KOSSA 7-0 at Lawson Tama Stadium in Honiara.

He then added six goals in an 8-1 victory over Ghupo Wantoks FC this week. Central Coast FC posted on social media: "This is what it currently feels like with Rafa Le’ai scoring TWO hat-tricks in our match yesterday! In addition to his 5 goals in our previous match, that’s an unbelievable ELEVEN GOALS in two matches!"

The club added: "That was the story of our match against Ghupo FC. Rafa was able to find himself on the goal-scoring end of wonderful team plays from our boys. Despite the penalty and resulting penalty goal against us, our boys would have been proud of their performance yesterday."

Continental heroics and fan reaction

His latest display follows a hat-trick on the continental stage, including a 117th-minute extra-time winner, which sent defending champions Central Coast into the OFC Champions League final.

News of Lea'i's form spread quickly online, with English top-flight fans flooding Reddit and Twitter/X with demands to "sign him now" ahead of the January transfer window. Popular destinations mentioned by supporters included Sunderland, Nottingham Forest and Manchester United.

Journey from futsal to European football

Lea'i began playing futsal at age 12 and earned a scholarship at Scots College in New Zealand. He returned to the domestic S-League with Henderson Eels for the 2019-20 campaign, scoring 24 goals in seven matches, including an 11-goal haul against Real Kakamora.

In January 2023, he became the first Solomon Islander to sign a professional contract in Europe, joining Bosnian Premier League side FK Velež Mostar after a trial in Turkey. He scored on his full debut against Igman Konjic in May 2023, but homesickness cut short his European spell, leading to moves to Adelaide City and Wollongong Wolves in Australia, as well as Solomon Kings.

Back with Central Coast FC, the 5ft 9in attacker scored a brace against Bulgaria during the FIFA Series in March 2026, becoming the first Solomon Islander to score against a European nation. At 23, Lea'i continues to show no signs of slowing down as Oceania's most prolific marksman.
