Rangers' summer rebuild: 14 in, 19 out as McInnes reshapes Ibrox squad

Rangers have completed a major squad overhaul this summer, with 14 players arriving and 19 departing under new boss Derek McInnes following a third-place finish.

McInnes finally landed the Ibrox job he has long wanted, but his first task was to rebuild a squad that finished third behind Celtic and his former club Hearts last season. The scale of change has been significant, with the revolving door at Ibrox seeing a vast number of ins and outs.

The window went down to the wire, with Kevin Kelsy and Badredine Bouanani arriving late on deadline day. Record Sport has compiled the full list of Rangers' transfer moves following the end of the window.

New arrivals strengthen key areas

McInnes' first task was to stiffen the spine of a squad that collapsed under title pressure last year. His predecessor Danny Rohl had already arranged for Lawrence Shankland to swap Gorgie for Govan before making way for the Scotland striker's former Tynecastle boss.

Following Shankland along the M8 was another former Hearts player, Cammy Devlin. Ex-Sunderland skipper Dan Neil and young Partizan midfielder Vanja Dragojevic joined the Australian in the list of new midfield options. The backline was reinforced with the signing of Hull goalkeeper Ivor Pandur plus defenders Ross McCrorie, Ben Godfrey, Olwethu Makhanya and James Penrice.

Once those positions were addressed, McInnes moved on to adding creative flair. He will hope that forwards Minsu Kim, Daisuke Yokota and Bouanani will supply Shankland and new recruit Kelsy with the service they need to fire Rangers to success in the months ahead.

Departures reshape the squad

The departure of six loanees from last season left Rangers with a major void to fill. The end of captain James Tavernier's 11-year stint at Ibrox robbed the club of a huge bank of experience, with the veteran right-back released as the hierarchy looked to break apart a leadership group that has failed to deliver success in recent seasons.

Jack Butland was also allowed to leave, swapping places with Pandur at Hull. McInnes was relieved to hold onto Nico Raskin despite Besiktas' late attempts to lure the Belgian World Cup star to Turkey.

With a 30-man-plus first-team squad, Rangers were forced to dispense with former regulars to clear space for new arrivals. Mohamed Diomande joined Corum in Turkey, recouping the cash paid for him when he joined from Nordsjaelland in 2024, while Connor Barron moved to Middlesbrough on loan. Thelo Aasgaard joined Anderlecht for the season, reuniting with Oliver Antman in Brussels, in a move that could net Rangers a £6m fee if made permanent next summer.

Danilo has an option to make his loan return to Brazil with Botafogo permanent. Bailey Rice will hope his loan to Kilmarnock provides the leg-up that fellow academy product Findlay Curtis enjoyed at Rugby Park last year.
