Rangers shareholders gather in Glasgow this morning as chairman Andrew Cavenagh faces questions after a difficult start to the season. The meeting comes on the back of a third-place Premiership finish, the departure of Danny Rohl, the arrival of Derek McInnes, and a winless start to the new campaign.
Shareholders Meeting at Radisson Blu
The meeting takes place at the Radisson Blu in Glasgow city centre, with shareholders invited to arrive at 10am. It follows the completion of a £16million share issue earlier this year. Cavenagh and chief executive Jim Gillespie are expected to face a grilling over the club's transfer strategy.
Rangers are no longer required to hold an AGM after moving from a PLC to a Limited Company following the US takeover just over two years ago. However, this meeting has been called in the interest of "transparency".
Chermiti Transfer Speculation
Andrew Cavenagh is likely to be grilled on the plan for Youssef Chermiti after the club blocked a record bid for the striker. The £22million offer from Galatasaray came hours before the striker was injured in the defeat to Hibs.
Record Sport's jury offered their views on what should happen next. Keith Jackson said: "First Rangers will have to hope he hasn’t done serious damage after a heavy fall against HIbs. Then, if they can squeeze an extra two or three million out of the Turks they should take the money and run. Chermiti may have huge potential but he’s the poster boy for a team which promises much and delivers precious little."
Andy Newport added: "Ibrox bosses expect the Istanbul giants will come back in again with a higher offer. And if they do they should grab it with both hands. Chermiti has promise but he can also be erratic. McInnes needs a far more reliable frontman."
Craig Swan noted: "Much is going to depend on how the Turks view the sight of him departing on a stretcher and the seriousness of the injury. Those will be the decisive factors."
Michael Gannon commented: "It's a surprise Rangers haven't snapped the hand off for that kind of money. Chermiti has the tools but is too unreliable and the money could be ploughed in elsewhere. Gers need to hope he's not crocked long term and they can still flog him for huge money."
