Rangers let a lead slip at Dens Park on Friday night, drawing 2-2 with Dundee after captain Dan Neil's costly error. The result means the Ibrox side failed to move top of the Premiership table.
Neil, who scored twice against Celtic a month ago, was at fault for Dundee's equaliser. After Badredine Bouanani and Nico Raskin had turned the game around, Neil was dispossessed by Callum Jones in his own half, allowing the midfielder to score.
Rangers' bright spots and defensive lapses
Dundee took the lead through Bradley Fink, who capitalised on a Dujon Sterling error. But Rangers responded with two stunning goals. Bouanani, making a rare start, curled a finish into the top corner, and Raskin's 25-yard strike dipped and curled in off the bar.
Despite those moments of quality, Rangers could not find a winner late on. Djeidi Gassama and Ryan Naderi struggled to make an impact, while the defence showed lapses that proved costly.
Player ratings
Ivor Pandur – 7: Helped Rangers keep a high line with an advanced starting position, reducing space for Dundee's forwards. He tipped over Astley's header but was rounded by Fink and had no chance with Jones' leveller.
Dujon Sterling – 6: Made an error for Dundee's goal, failing to see Fink and playing a short pass back after struggling with a long ball. His delivery from wide areas also needs improvement.
Emmanuel Fernandez – 6: Was slack a few times in the first half but fans accept that's his style. More concerned with distribution than defending against Hay and Fink.
Olwethu Makhanya – 7: Had an early lapse but soon got on his game. Used his pace to cut out a Hay chance with a brilliant interception just before the break.
James Penrice – 6: Struggled to link up with Gassama on the left. Rarely got high enough to use his crossing ability and fired a shot over late on.
Dan Neil – 5: Had less influence than in recent weeks and missed a big chance from a Sterling cut-back. Worse followed when Jones robbed him in his own half to make it 2-2.
Nico Raskin – 8: Played a deeper role and put out many fires in the first half. Not known for shooting, but his 25-yard strike kissed the bar on the way in – a wonder goal.
Badredine Bouanani – 7: Given a big opportunity and delivered a moment of brilliance. After an initial effort was blocked, he produced a stunning finish into the top corner. Denied a second by Goodman after the break.
Minsu Kim – 7: Started slowly in the number 10 role but improved after half-time. Unlucky with a curling shot, set up Bouanani with a deft flick, and his tenacity helped create Raskin's goal.
Djeidi Gassama – 6: Rarely linked up with Penrice and wasn't a big threat. His best work was defensive. Improved in the second half and saw a long-range effort tipped wide.
Ryan Naderi – 6: Started confidently with good lay-offs and ball protection but was starved of clear chances in the box and never looked like scoring late on.
Substitutes
Kevin Kelsy – 2: Thrown on for Kim at 2-2 but barely touched the ball and couldn't find space in front of goal.
Findlay Curtis – 3: Replaced Bouanani on the right as Rangers pushed for a winner. Posed a threat but couldn't make a difference in the final third.
