Emma Raducanu has been handed a challenging draw at the Indian Wells Open, with a potential third-round clash against world number six Amanda Anisimova. The 23-year-old recently parted ways with coach Francis Roig after six months, following her second-round exit at the Australian Open. Former coach Mark Petchey will join her coaching box on a part-time basis.
In the men's draw, Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz have been placed in the same half, setting up a potential semi-final showdown. Djokovic could also face British number one Jack Draper in the fourth round. Draper, 24, is returning from a five-month layoff due to bone bruising in his arm, and will play his first ATP 1000 tournament of 2026.
Alcaraz defeated Djokovic in the Australian Open final last month, completing a career Grand Slam. The Serbian will be seeking revenge at Indian Wells. Meanwhile, defending champion and British number one Jack Draper could meet Djokovic in the fourth round, should both progress.
World number two Jannik Sinner is in the same half as American Ben Shelton, with Sinner holding a 9-1 record against Shelton. Sinner also faces a potential third-round match against Stefanos Tsitsipas, followed by a possible fourth-round encounter with Joao Fonseca or Karen Khachanov.
The round of 64 matches at Indian Wells begin on Friday, March 6, with the finals scheduled for Sunday, March 15. Tim Henman, former British number one, suggested Raducanu might benefit from not having a coach, saying she should 'own it' and embrace the freedom.
