Paris Saint-Germain defeated Barcelona 4-2 in a six-goal Champions League thriller in Paris, while Manchester City cruised to a 5-1 win over AEK Athens thanks to a Phil Foden hat-trick, and Liverpool came from two goals down to beat Villarreal 4-3.
PSG edge Barcelona in back-and-forth contest
PSG took the lead when Desire Doue capitalised on a mistake from Lamine Yamal and curled in a fine finish. Barcelona nearly equalised through Fermin Lopez, who had replaced the injured Dani Olmo in the first half, but he was denied by Matvei Safonov and Willian Pacho.
Ten minutes into the second half, 19-year-old Xavi Espart drove down the right and beat Safonov for power, just after Achraf Hakimi had missed a golden opportunity. Ferran Torres then missed a close-range chance against his former club, and Lucas Hernandez powered home a header from the resulting corner.
Yamal responded by blazing past substitute Warren Zaire-Emery and prodding the ball past Safonov at his near post. Two minutes later, Vintinha hit an audacious effort from the edge of the box that nestled into the net past Joan Garcia. Fabian Ruiz added a clincher, but PSG's night was marred by injuries to Ousmane Dembele, Marquinhos and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
Foden stars as Man City thrash AEK Athens
At the Etihad, City took an early lead through Elliot Anderson, who tapped in after Rayan Cherki's free-kick hit the crossbar. Phil Foden doubled the lead with a neat one-two with Rico Lewis before firing home.
AEK Athens threatened a comeback when Stavros Pilios scored shortly after the break, but Cherki made it 3-1 five minutes later. Foden then completed a hat-trick as City ran out 5-1 winners.
Liverpool comeback and other results
Liverpool came from 2-0 down to beat Villarreal. An error from Virgil van Dijk allowed the La Liga side to go in front after four minutes, and Sergi Cardona made it two. Alexis Mac Allister scored twice and Ronald Araujo headed in to flip the game, before Florian Wirtz made it 4-2. A consolation from the visitors ended the game 4-3.
Elsewhere, Napoli beat Bodo/Glimt 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller, Roma hammered Slovan Bratislava 4-0, PSV snatched a 1-0 win at Porto, and Stuttgart drew 1-1 with Atletico Madrid. In the early kick-offs, Borussia Dortmund claimed a 2-1 win at Sabah, while Fenerbahce threw away a two-goal lead against Slavia Prague, who picked up their first point of the campaign.
