Manchester City moved to the top of the Premier League table with a 1-0 victory at Burnley on Wednesday, overtaking Arsenal in a dramatic twist in the title race. Just two weeks ago, Mikel Arteta's side held a nine-point lead, but a combination of Arsenal stutters and City's relentless form has erased that advantage.
City drew level on points with Arsenal after a 2-1 win at the Etihad Stadium last weekend, with goals from Rayan Cherki and Erling Haaland. Both teams now have 70 points, with City leading on goals scored (66 to 63) and both sharing a goal difference of +37. Haaland's early strike at Turf Moor sealed City's ascent with five games remaining.
City have a game in hand and do not play in the Premier League this weekend, instead facing Southampton in the FA Cup semi-finals. Arsenal could reclaim top spot when they host Newcastle United on April 25. The following weekend, City travel to Everton while Arsenal host Fulham.
Later fixtures see City host Brentford, while Arsenal visit West Ham. A potential banana skin awaits City at Bournemouth on May 17, while Arsenal face already-relegated Burnley. On the final day, City travel to Aston Villa, who may be chasing Champions League football, while Arsenal visit Crystal Palace. City's rearranged home game against Palace is yet to be scheduled.
