Jordan Love threw for 292 yards and two touchdowns as the Green Bay Packers defeated the Washington Commanders 27-18 on Thursday night. The win moves the Packers to 2-0 for the first time since 2020, extending their strong start to the season.
Tight end Tucker Kraft caught six passes for a career-high 124 yards, including a crucial eight-yard touchdown reception from Love with 8:57 remaining, which thwarted the Commanders' comeback attempt. Love, who completed 19 of 31 passes, also connected with Romeo Doubs for a five-yard score in the first quarter. The Packers' offence operated without injured linemen Zach Tom and Aaron Banks.
Washington gained just 11 yards in the opening quarter and did not reach the end zone until the final period. Quarterback Jayden Daniels finished 24 of 42 for 200 yards, throwing touchdown passes of 20 yards to Zach Ertz and 10 yards to Deebo Samuel. However, the Commanders' defeat was compounded by injuries to running back Austin Ekeler, who hurt his right achilles tendon in the fourth quarter, and defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr, who was carted off with a quadriceps injury in the second period.
Green Bay built a 14-3 halftime lead thanks to two touchdown drives of more than 90 yards. Josh Jacobs scored from two yards out to cap a 10-play, 92-yard march, while Doubs' touchdown came at the end of a seven-play, 96-yard series. Jacobs finished with 84 yards on 23 carries.
Washington pulled within 17-10 on Ertz's touchdown with 13:45 to play, but the Packers responded with a touchdown on their next drive and added a 56-yard field goal from Brandon McManus. Samuel's touchdown closed the scoring with 2:53 left. The Packers have now won their last seven home meetings with Washington, who last won at Lambeau Field in 1986.
