O'Neill Hits Back at Rohl Over Celtic European Approach

Celtic manager Martin O'Neill has fired back at Rangers boss Danny Rohl after the latter questioned the Hoops' approach in their Europa League defeat to Stuttgart. O'Neill, 73, expressed surprise at Rohl's comments, suggesting the Rangers manager should focus on his own team's performances.

Celtic exited the Europa League with a 4-2 aggregate loss to Stuttgart, but secured a 1-0 win in Germany. Rohl had questioned why Celtic did not attempt to win the tie more convincingly, prompting O'Neill's response. 'He thought we didn't try to win the tie? He wants to be involved in some of these games,' O'Neill said.

O'Neill further dismissed Rohl's remarks, pointing out that the Rangers boss has been in charge for less than a year. 'Well done, old Danny, well done. He's only in less than a year himself. He'll soon know all about it in the next four or five years,' O'Neill added.

The Celtic boss also defended his player Luke McCowan, who had claimed that no other Scottish team can match Celtic at their best. Rohl had directed McCowan to the league standings, where Rangers led by two points. O'Neill backed his player, saying, 'Luke is entitled to his comments. What I think he probably meant is that we are a fine side when we are playing at our very best.'
