Ollie Peake Set for Australia Debut in Pakistan ODIs

Teenage batting sensation Ollie Peake has moved closer to an international debut after being named in Australia's squad for the upcoming three-match One-Day International series against Pakistan, commencing on 30 May in Rawalpindi and Lahore.

Youngest Specialist Batter in the Making

At just 19 years of age, Peake is poised to become Australia's youngest men's ODI specialist batter if he takes the field. The right-hander, who previously captained the Australia Under-19 side, has been selected for the Pakistan leg of the tour but will not feature in the subsequent Bangladesh matches, where senior players like Travis Head, Cooper Connolly, and Ben Dwarshuis return after Indian Premier League commitments.

New Faces and Omissions

Alongside Peake, all-rounder Liam Scott, 25, has received his maiden call-up for the ODI squads. Left-arm spinning all-rounder Joel Davies, 22, has been named in the T20 squad for the first time. However, veteran all-rounder Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis have been omitted from the white-ball setups, following Australia's early exit from the T20 World Cup earlier this year.

National selection chair George Bailey expressed enthusiasm about the new additions. "It's always exciting to see new players get an opportunity to play international cricket and be a part of the national team," Bailey said. "The blend of experienced players coupled with new or returning players will provide a nice mix for these subcontinent tours."

With ODI captain Pat Cummins and fast bowlers Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc resting after the IPL, T20 skipper Mitchell Marsh will captain the ODI side. The Australian squad for the Pakistan ODIs includes Marsh (captain), Alex Carey, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Inglis, Matthew Kuhnemann, Marnus Labuschagne, Riley Meredith, Oliver Peake, Matthew Renshaw, Tanveer Sangha, Liam Scott, Matt Short, Billy Stanlake, and Adam Zampa.
