Arsenal came from behind to beat Chelsea 2-1 and make it three wins from three in the Premier League this season. Morgan Rogers opened the scoring with barely a minute on the clock, but Arsenal held their nerve and hit back before the break through Kai Havertz against his former club.
A calm finish from Martin Odegaard completed the comeback just after half-time and that was a lead the Gunners held, coming through their toughest test of the campaign so far in impressive fashion.
Player ratings from the Emirates
David Raya 8 - Stunning late save to deny Estevao. Held well from a curling Palmer effort and then parried out James' strike. Distribution was superb on the whole, with two perfect balls over the top in particular to Havertz and Tzolis.
Ben White 6 - Arsenal's best moments came when he combined with Saka and Odegaard down the right, flying forward on the overlap. Not entirely convincing at the back and struggled early against Rogers, but improved.
Ezri Konsa 7 - Thrown in at the deep end, with Arsenal happy to leave him one-on-one with Joao Pedro and had some tough moments. But his perfect sliding challenge to stop Rogers on the counter was cheered like a goal and no Arsenal player made more clearances.
Gabriel 8 - Monster in the closing stages, making two top headed clearances from a corner in the space of five seconds. Marshalled those around him as Chelsea put the pressure on and ensured they stayed firm. Went close from free-kick early on.
Midfield and attack shine
Riccardo Calafiori 7 - Denied an equaliser by the offside flag, having already gone close when sliding in at the near post from a free-kick. Played near enough every position in his hour on the pitch but Neto tested him defensively.
Declan Rice 7 - His positive pass through to Havertz led to goal. Not quite as dominant in midfield as he often is, with Chelsea enjoying success on the counter. Tidy in possession. Tired late on but dragged himself through the 90 minutes.
Myles Lewis-Skelly 6 - One sensational turn under pressure on the edge of his own box to spin out of trouble. Relished the edge of this derby, winding up Joao Pedro in the second-half. Perhaps fortunate to avoid a booking after making five fouls.
Bukayo Saka 7 - Continues to look much closer to his best form this season. Drifted around the pitch in a fluid attack and was so strong on the ball, wriggling away from challenges. Tested Martinez at his near post and linked up well.
Martin Odegaard 9 - True captain's display. So bright in leading Arsenal's response to the early goal and then fired them in front with what is becoming a trademark finish, making late run into the box. Heartbeat of the attack.
Christos Tzolis 8 - Again produced that low, fast ball into Odegaard's path to open up a defence. Miles better than he was at Villa Park, creating four chances. Did not stop working either - nobody on the pitch covered more distance.
Kai Havertz 8 - Sharp to cut inside and beat Martinez at his near post for 1-1. Then produced a glorious dummy to create the space for Odegaard's finish, and another wonderful flick almost led to a Saka goal. Top class.
Substitutes' impact
Piero Hincapie (Calafiori 65') 7 - Relentless intensity to his defending, as you'd expect, charging into the challenges. Perfect sub to have for this scenario.
Martin Zubimendi (Lewis-Skelly 65') 6 - Energy at both ends of the pitch in another solid cameo. A couple of needless fouls but did a decent job.
Viktor Gyokeres (Havertz 75') 4 - First minutes of the season and looked well off the pace. Did not hold the ball up at all and too many clumsy touches.
Mikel Merino (Odegaard 75') 6 - Booked in the final seconds for kicking the ball away. Little opportunity to get involved in attack.
