Cristiana Girelli's 90th-minute header secured a dramatic 2-1 victory for Italy over Norway in the Women's Euro 2025 quarter-final in Geneva, sending the Azzurre to their first major tournament semi-final since 1997.
The 35-year-old striker scored twice, opening the scoring with a deft touch in the 62nd minute before heading the winner from Sofia Cantore's cross. Norway had equalised through Ada Hegerberg, who earlier missed a penalty, but could not force extra time.
Italy will face either England or Sweden in the semi-finals on Tuesday. Girelli described the achievement as 'magical and special', saying: 'I saw in the eyes of my teammates something I can’t explain in words.'
Norway manager Gemma Grainger said her side would look back with 'real pride' despite the late defeat, adding: 'When you concede so late, it’s so hard to take, especially with that second-half performance.'
