The County Championship served up a day of compelling drama, headlined by a remarkable hat-trick from 18-year-old Glamorgan debutant Tom Norton. The teenager, playing his first first-class match, dismissed James Rew, Tom Lammonby, and Archie Vaughan in quick succession at Sophia Gardens, sparking wild celebrations as his teammates mobbed him on the field. Norton's heroics helped peg back Somerset, who had earlier posted 354 in their first innings.

Norton's Dream Debut
Norton's hat-trick was the standout moment of the day. After Somerset had built a strong position, Norton struck with three wickets in an over, leaving the visitors reeling at 32-6 in their second innings. The Glamorgan youngster, who had previously taken just one wicket in the first innings, was swamped by his teammates as he completed the feat. His victims included England hopeful James Rew, who was dismissed for a duck after being promoted up the order.
Sibley's Steady Hand
At Trent Bridge, Dom Sibley continued his rich vein of form, scoring 77 for Surrey. The opener, who has been in fine touch with two centuries in his previous matches, looked set for another big score before being caught behind off Liam Patterson-White. Sibley's innings helped Surrey reach 211-4 in reply to Nottinghamshire's 415, with Joe Clarke earlier making an unbeaten 129 for the hosts.
Warwickshire Dominate Yorkshire
Warwickshire seized control of their match at Edgbaston, reducing Yorkshire to 152 all out and then building a lead of 262 runs. Rob Yates was the star with the bat, scoring 81, while the bowlers shared the wickets around. Harry Brook, playing his first innings of the summer, entertained briefly with a cover drive before being bowled by Ethan Bamber for a modest score.
Other Highlights
At Old Trafford, James Anderson continued to impress, taking a wicket with his first ball of the day as Middlesex were bowled out for 169. Lancashire, in their second innings, reached 45-3, leading by 77 runs. Meanwhile, Ben Stokes made his presence felt at New Road, taking two wickets for Durham as Worcestershire were dismissed for 308. Stokes later came out to bat, adding to the excitement.
Derbyshire declared on 604-7 against Northamptonshire, with hundreds from Andersson and Guest. They then reduced the visitors to 12-1 before stumps. At Hove, Sussex reached 386-8, with John Simpson scoring 71, while Leicestershire were bowled out for 328.
Looking Ahead
With several matches finely poised, the next day promises more gripping action. Glamorgan will hope Norton can continue his fairytale debut, while Surrey will look to build on Sibley's foundation. Warwickshire will aim to press home their advantage, and all eyes will be on Ben Stokes as he looks to make an impact with the bat.
