Everton are set to complete the £7million signing of Christian Norgaard, and comments from his former Brentford boss Thomas Frank underline the qualities the midfielder will bring to the Blues.
The 32-year-old underwent a medical on Tuesday, with the club finalising the move. Norgaard joined Fiorentina in 2019 for around £2.8million before moving to Brentford, where he reunited with Frank, his former Denmark youth and Brondby coach.
Career at Brentford
Norgaard was part of the Brentford squad that won promotion to the Premier League in 2021, ending a 74-year top-flight absence. He was named club captain in 2023 and made 196 appearances for the west London side, scoring 13 goals.
When Norgaard signed his final contract with Brentford in March last year, Frank praised his leadership and technical ability. He said: "This new contract was a no-brainer for us and Christian. Christian has been an integral part of the fantastic journey we have been on these past six years. He is our club captain and one of our most important players."
What Norgaard brings
Frank highlighted Norgaard's defensive instincts and forward passing. "His ability to sense danger and make interceptions is at an extraordinarily high level, as is his ability to play forward on the first or second touch. And he has picked up his goal threat this season," he said.
"The first time I coached Christian, he was a no.10; now he is one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League."
