Nicolas Jackson Forced to Return to Chelsea After Bayern Loan Collapses

Nicolas Jackson has been left frustrated after Bayern Munich pulled out of a deal to sign the striker on loan from Chelsea. The Senegal international was given permission to fly to Munich on Saturday after the clubs agreed a loan with an option to buy for €65m (£56m), but Chelsea later blocked the move following an injury to Liam Delap.

Delap sustained a hamstring injury against Fulham and is expected to be out for at least eight weeks, leaving Chelsea with only one fit striker. Head coach Enzo Maresca is reluctant to proceed without sufficient attacking options given the team's packed schedule over the next two months.

Jackson remained in Bavaria with his representatives on Sunday, hoping to find a solution, but Bayern only wanted a loan while Chelsea insisted on a permanent deal. The Bundesliga champions have since walked away from talks and are pursuing other targets.

Jackson, who has scored 24 goals in 65 Premier League appearances, had dropped down the pecking order after Chelsea signed João Pedro and Delap this summer. He asked to leave in August and has been linked with Aston Villa, Newcastle, Napoli and Juventus. It remains unclear if any club will move for him before the transfer window closes on Monday night.

Chelsea have contingency plans in case Jackson leaves, including recalling Marc Guiu from his loan at Sunderland and making inquiries about Sporting Lisbon's Conrad Harder. The club is also open to offers for Tyrique George, Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell and Axel Disasi.
