Suggy, the Newsboy’s nap of the day, is tipped to shine at Wolverhampton on Monday evening in the Roy Grimwood Memorial Handicap (8.00). Trained by Charlie Hills, the three-year-old returns to the all-weather surface after a disappointing run at Newbury, where he finished eighth on rain-softened turf.
Having previously won a Kempton nursery over a mile in May, Suggy showed promise by coming from the back to beat Blue Celestial by a length and a quarter. Despite a subsequent defeat, his handler remains confident, and the colt is on an unchanged mark just 4lb above his winning rating.
Elsewhere, Romanza is the next-best selection (nb) at Lingfield in the Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Novice Stakes (3.15). The filly ran a fine race at Royal Ascot, finishing seventh in the Listed Chesham Stakes at 22-1, and is expected to thrive in less competitive company.
Wolverhampton’s six-race card also features Brave Bob, Roxelina, and Style King, while Lingfield boasts Mister Daydream and Cavalier among the contenders. The Newsboy’s double includes Suggy and Romanza.
