Newcastle United defender Dan Burn has been left embarrassed after a video of his golf swing went viral on social media. The 33-year-old enjoyed a standout 2024/25 season, scoring the opening goal in the Carabao Cup final win over Liverpool and earning his first England call-up, becoming the oldest debutant since Kevin Davies in 2010.
During the off-season, Burn was filmed at Blyth Golf Club attempting a tee shot. After taking time to compose himself, he sliced the ball wildly into nearby trees, prompting him to slam his club on the ground in frustration. The video was shared on X, formerly Twitter, with the caption: 'Not a good start for Dan Burn.'
Burn is far from the only footballer to struggle on the course, though many of his peers are keen golfers. Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope has been spotted playing alongside former Magpie Shay Given at Close House Golf Club in 2023. Other footballing enthusiasts include Gareth Bale, Harry Kane, and Andriy Shevchenko.
Striker Alexander Isak, however, has admitted he lacks the patience for golf, despite acting as a caddie for Sweden teammates in Marbella last year. He told Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen: 'I was not golfing but I was there to support the boys. I was the caddie. I drove the car.'
